The Old Testament readings for this week continue to go through the book of Deuteronomy, and the New Testament readings conclude the Gospel of Matthew. The Psalm readings this week begin the Psalms of Ascents (or “Degrees,” as in the KJV). These psalms were songs God’s People sang as they went up to the Temple, typically during one of the annual religious pilgrimages to Jerusalem. The Confessional readings continue examining the doctrine of the salvation, this week focusing on God’s adoption of His people on the basis of the work of Christ.
