Announcement – New Lectionary Sequence Beginning in January 2023

Dear Readers,

In January 2023, the lectionary readings for A Covenantal Lectionary will begin a new three-year sequence (2023-2025). For those who are new to this site, the Covenantal Lectionary readings have long been a key part of this site. I developed this lectionary because I wanted to get a better sense of the chronological unfolding of the covenantal narrative, at a more sustainable pace than most plans for reading through the Bible. Most Bible reading plans aim to get through all of Scripture in one year. That is great if you can do it, but for me (and others I know as well), if one misses a few days because life happens, then catching up becomes hard to do. The Covenantal Lectionary, however, goes through one-third of the Old Testament, all of the New Testament, and the Psalms twice in a given year. That works out to roughly one chapter of the Old Testament, one chapter of the New Testament, and a Psalm daily. The lectionary also contains weekly readings from the Westminster Standards. The aim is to be able to absorb and mediate on what one is reading, not simply to rush through things. For more details on how the lectionary is set up see the page, “The Lectionary Through the Year.

Soli Deo Gloria
