The Old Testament readings this week describe the division of the Kingdom under Rehoboam (chs. 10-12), and the reigns of Abijah (13:1-14:1) and Asa (chs. 15-16).
The Old Testament readings in 2 Chronicles 8-9 conclude the account of Solomon’s reign by highlighting the Solomon’s commitment to the proper Temple worship, as David had prepared for, as well as Solomon’s influence and renown. As a segue from the conclusion of Solomon’s reign this week’s readings also include the entirety of the Song of Songs, traditionally credited to Solomon.
